McKenzie Friend UK
Facing court alone?
You don't have to.

Not a solicitor - but by your side every step of the way.
Going to court alone can feel overwhelming. I am a McKenzie Friend - a trained lay advisor who sits beside you, helps you understand what is happening and makes sure your voice is heard.
What is a McKenzie Friend?
A McKenzie Friend is a lay person - not a solicitor - who is permitted by the court to assist someone that is representing themselves. The name comes from a 1970 Court of Appeal case, McKenzie v McKenzie, which established the right to have this kind of support.
As your McKenzie Friend, I can either sit with you in court, or remotely, to take notes, quietly advise you during proceedings, and help you organise your documents beforehand. I cannot speak on your behalf in court, but I can make sure you feel prepared, supported and never alone.
Many people find the legal system confusing and intimidating. My role is to make it less so - to translate the jargon, explain the processes, and help you present your case as clearly and confidently as possible.
